Can You Treat The Eye Area?

We are always being asked what we can offer for around the eyes. Skin around the eyes is very thin, it will often be the first area you begin to see the effects or ageing. Unlike the rest of the face, the eyes have no sebaceous glands so can often become dry.

Most Common Eye Concerns

  • Wrinkles
  • Hollows
  • Puffiness
  • Dark Circles
  • Pigmentation
  • Dryness

Causes of Ageing

Most eye concerns are caused by premature ageing however our generic make up and skin conditions such as Eczema can also contribute.

There are two types of ageing causes:

Intrinsic

Intrinsic ageing is our body’s natural ageing factors. This is made up within our genetics and makes up 10% of the overall cause of ageing. Ageing begins from our 20s. With years of expressions including blinking, our eyes start to age due to collagen and elastin breakdown.

Extrinsic

Extrinsic ageing is caused by external factors, these are the factors we can control.

  • Sun exposure
  • Pollution
  • Smoking
  • Diet
  • Poor skin maintenance

Sun exposure

Harmful UV rays cause collagen and elastin to breakdown. We find the eyes get missed a lot when it comes to applying SPF. It is important to ensure the whole face, including eyes have SPF applied on a daily basis. On bright sunny days, wearing sunglasses will also help prevent ageing around the eyes.

Pollution

Pollution can cause free radical damage in our skin cells triggering collagen and elastin breakdown.

Smoking

Toxins from smoking cause breakdown of collagen and elastin resulting in lines and wrinkles.

Diet

Glycation causes advanced glycation end product (AGE’s), this happens when glucose (sugar) molecules attach to collagen and elastin fibres causing a break down of these fibres, resulting in deeper lines forming. This can be very visible around the eyes.

Poor skin maintenance

Often the eyes are forgotten about or we find products that are not designed for the eyes being used. It is important to also follow the advice of your Skin Specialist.

Treatments

Microneedling

Unlike other treatments the whole eye area can be treated. We treat this area to a depth of 0.5mm, as skin is a lot thinner.

Microneedling with the Dermicapen works by causing micro ‘trauma wounds’ to the eye area to encourage the production of collagen (our bodys building blocks). Collagen production will start throughout the treatment but as our skin takes 4 weeks on average to renew we start to see results after this time.

We use collagen stimulating products such as Hyaluronic acid throughout the treatment to increase results. Skin will feel like a mild sunburn after so to finish off we apply a bio cellulose eye mask to promote healing and further absorption of serums. Treatment time 45 minutes. Downtime of 1-2 weeks.

Anti Wrinkle Injections

Cosmetic Injectable Treatments

We can treat crows feet and between the eyebrows to reduce lines around the eyes. Some clients benefit from a ‘chemical brow lift’ to subtly lift the eye area reducing the appearance of hooded eyes. Results last 3-6 months.

Tear Trough Dermal Filler

We treat hollows of the under eye with a specialist dermal filler called Redensity ii. Results last up to 1 year.
