Pore size is a common concern when it comes to the skin on our face with clients regularly asking how to minimise open pores. Skin pores can cause the face to look dull and aged. People with oily skin are prone to this problem, thanks to excessive sebum production. This can also lead to complications like blackheads and acne. Factors like stress, genetics, and unhealthy skin care also give rise to open pores. The skin loses its elasticity as you age, making the condition worse.

Many of us experience enlarged pores on our noses and around our T-zones, and it can be really tough to target. “Pore size is genetically determined,” says Beyond Skin Clinic Manager, Gillian Rossborough. “Whilst you can’t make pores physically smaller there are many things you can do to minimize the appearance of pores and promote clean, healthy skin.”

1. Introduce double cleansing to your routine.
Cleanse with a deep cleansing cleanser like Obagi Clenziderm Daily Foaming Cleanser. This product contains salicylic acid that will make sure any excess oil and impurities have been lifted out of the skin. Follow this with Skinceuticals Blemish & Age Cleansing Gel that will remove excess sebum and purify the skin.

2. Exfoliate at least twice a week. Exfoliate the skin with an effective product like our Dermaquest Algae Polishing Scrub. It’s active ingredients such as citric acid and aloe leaf extract will wash away the dead skin cells that may be blocking the pores as well as giving your skin a deep cleansing.

3. After exfoliating, always apply a treatment mask. Using our Dermaquest C Infusion TX Mask  will provide soothing antioxidant protection promoting collagen and elastin production helping minimise open pores. This ultra creamy mask contains Vitamin C and natural hyaluronic acid to hydrate and plump. No matter the age or skin type the skin will feel instantly smoother, shine free and more radiant.

4. Make sure you are applying products with a high SPF.  To help protect against UVA sun damage that will cause your skin’s collagen levels to deplete and elasticity to reduce, make sure you are always protected by products that carry a high SPF like our Heliocare Gel SPF50+. This product uses the patented ingredient Fernblock to guard against UVA and UVA damage and offers invisible antioxidant protection.

There are a number of things you can use at home to combat pore problems, however treatments in our clinic are the perfect way to kick-start your skincare regime and give a deeper clean.

Our Obagi Blue Radiance Peel is the perfect treatment for de-congesting, brightening and smoothing the skin for texture. It also contains Salicylic Acid, an oil-soluble ingredient, which means it’ll get deep into your pores, clean them out and improve your overall complexion.

Microneedling Treatments are also proven to reduce the appearance of pores whilst tightening skin & improving the overall texture & tone of skin.
