How to look good without make-up: Top Tips from Beauty Queen Amira Graham

I love getting glammed up for a special event, but one thing I have learnt from being on reality TV is that there are always going to be instances where you will have to go bare-faced. The thought of going out without makeup used to scare me, but with the help of Beyond Skin I’ve learned how to look after my skin and embrace the natural look.

So I’m sharing my top tips on how to get naturally beautiful skin:

Exfoliate Regularly

Invest in a good quality exfoliator. Exfoliating once or twice a week helps your skin look young and fresh without the use of any make up trick. As well as making your skin feel really smooth, it can also help reduce acne scars. My favourite product for light exfoliation is the Dermaquest Essential Cleanser. It gently cleanses skin without stripping away any natural moisture and contains pineapple and papaya fruit extract so it smells beautiful!

For a deeper exfoliation I highly recommend getting a Microdermabrasion Treatment. It lifts dead skin cells, impurities, gunk and oil to help flatten acne scars, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, even out skin tone and get rid of dark spots and discolorations. I usually try and have at least one of these treatment every six weeks to keep my skin fresh and glowing.

Moisturise Daily

Exfoliating and Moisturising go hand in hand to get better looking skin that doesn’t need any make-up, or at least not as much. After exfoliation or microdermabrasion, it is important to moisturise your skin to avoid it getting flaky, dry, and feel rough. The daily moisturiser I swear by is the Dermaquest B5 Moisture Matte. It controls shine and reduces the appearance of pore size, so it is perfect for going make up free!

Invest in Good Quality Serums

Serums are equivalent to energy skin shots that deliver nutrients directly to the skin. They contain high concentrations of skin-boosting ingredients that help improve the skin and give it the pampering it deserves. There are many high-quality serums available in the market but one I love the most is the SkinCeuticals H.A. Intensifier. The Hyaluronic Acid in this product works wonders for my skin, as it holds water for more plumped skin and improves skin texture.

Prevent Breakouts

If like me, you are prone to the odd breakout, exfoliating, moisturising and a general healthy diet should help most of the time. However, another treatment I turn to when a feel a pimple coming on is the Dermaquest Pumpkin Peel. It contains salicylic acid to target acne, congestion and clogged skin, perfect to prevent breakouts and reduce oil on the skin.

Always use an SPF

Ultraviolet rays from the sun are the biggest cause of ageing, so SPF is a year-round beauty bag essential for me. My go to SPF product is the Heliocare Gel SPF50+. The gel is transparent, lightweight and doesn’t colour the skin, so perfect for days when you wanna ditch the make up!

It’s great to know I can take a quick snap and not have to worry about filters or edits. Thanks to the great skincare tips I got at Beyond Skin, my #nomakeupselfie is one of my favourite pics!
