Dry vs Dehydrated

Do I have dry skin?

During a skin consultation we find some clients may think they have dry skin however it turns out to be dehydrated. Dry skin is a skin type whilst dehydrated skin is often a temporary skin condition. Dehydrated skin is often caused by external factors such as the environment.

What is the Difference Between Dry and Dehydrated Skin?

Dry skins are lacking in oil as they produce less sebum (oil) from sebaceous glands so they are unable to retain as much moisture, whilst dehydrated skins are lacking in water.

Causes of Dehydrated Skin

  • Environment
  • Sun Exposure
  • Air Conditioning
  • Central Heating
  • Over use of alcohol based products
  • Poor diet

Treatments

LED Light Therapy

LED (Light Emitting Diode) Light therapy uses different wavelengths to penetrate into our skin. Each wavelength has a different colour. We can combine LED Light Therapy into a nourishing and hydrating facial to relieve dry and dehydrated skin. We use both the red and yellow lights for this.

When skin is dehydrated, we want to repair this short term skin condition before treating any other skin condition, as often the barrier of the skin is impaired.

Hydrating Serums

Hyaluronic Acid is responsible for keeping our skin hydrated. It does this by drawing and holding water. One molecule of Hyaluronic Acid can hold 1000x its own weight in water. This is the key ingredient to keeping skin hydrated. It can be found in multiple products, in different strengths and molecular weights. We recommend a Hyaluronic acid serum daily for anyone experiencing dehydrated skin.
